The newly built, three-story townhome received a functional facelift that created character and charm and better defined its position within one of Toronto’s more elegant neighbourhoods. Vetiver worked closely with the client to determine the priorities. Top of the list was a full-service experience from concept to planting and a long-term approach that ensures ease of maintenance for the working- professionals. This was achieved with great success through our in-house project management and implementation of reliable, irrigation and landscape lighting systems.
As for the design itself, Vetiver’s vision was to soften the existing hardscape and add a sense of serenity that would welcome the clients home. The front redesign featured an architectural, tree-lined driveway of columnar beech trees and yew box-hedging that would maintain their form for years to come. The box-hedging was mirrored at the entryway and enclosed a dramatic Bloodgood maple tree, included at the request of the client.
The raised bed was inspired by the naturalist designs of Dutch master Piet Oudolf, wherein ‘intentionally unintentional’, layered textures and complimentary colours remain the star.
